This was my Master’s capstone project, encompassing the end-to-end research and development product cycle. Our team name was Epilogic.
I was the Technical Lead on this project working with M*Modal, a medical dictation and natural language processing software company in Pittsburgh, PA. M*Modal’s dictation software captures structured data from physicians’ speech as they dictate patient data. We designed a way to improve the quality of physicians’ documentation by providing access to this data and by helping them to catch errors.
During phase 1, the first half of our project, our team researched how physicians interact with their Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software by interviewing physicians and observing them at work. During the design phase of our project, the second half, we used our research findings from the spring to design a solution to help improve physicians’ documentation.
